Galaxy Tab 8.9 is equipped with a 8.9 inch 1280 x 800 pixels screen and ARM-processor operating at 1 GHz, and runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Samsung B7350 Omnia Pro 4

People, I wish you have a good time in the past a few days, today, we just receive another two messages about phones from Samsung.During the CommunicAsia 2010, which is currently taking place in Singapore, Samsung presents the public several new machines, among them there is one which is codenamed as Samsung Omnia Pro 4 cellphone.

The machine looks more like a blackberry phone.As what you can say it features a small screen, yes, the Samsung Omnia Pro 4 features a 2.62″ TFT screen, which comes up with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, a standard 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus function, the phone is located in the inside, apart from the 3.2 megapixel camera, the phone also features a font (outside) camera, which could be used for video calls.I never try video calls before, because, some of my friends do not have phones which also support video calls, however, if you want to enjoy the fun of video calls, you can buy the Pro 4, it is a very nice option, besides, the machine also has the full QWERTY keyboard, which can be find easily(check the right picture).

Another thing about the Samsung Omnia Pro 4 is that this machine not only has one name, Samsung also gives it another name, like the B7350, so if you want to try another new phone from Samsung, you are able to consider the B7350, Samsung announced that the phone will be officially launched at some point in July 2010.So you guys still need to wait for a couple of weeks before having the B7350 on your hands.

Yes, it's another Omnia! First we had the Omnia, then the Omnia II, then the Omnia Lite, then the OmniaPRO B7320 and now the OmniaPRO 7330. Blimey, so many Omnias! Anyway, the B7330 takes on a different form factor to all the others. This one has a front facing QWERTY keyboard. Can it compare though with the likes of the HTC Snap and the numerous Blackberry's?

Review:

The Samsung B7330 OmniaPRO is a decent looking handset. I have previously used both the Samsung i600 and i780 which are all part of the same front facing QWERTY keyboard family and the OmniaPRO is probably the best looking.

The device feels pretty well made, although very plastic like most recent Samsung releases. Although the Samsung B7330 OmniaPRO is a Windows phone it is non touch screen and so is running windows mobile 6.5 standard like on the HTC Snap. Windows mobile is not the most popular OS and the standard edition even less so. Saying that, it works well but is just not the most flashy OS.

The OmniaPRO comes with several option for a home screen. The best one in my opinion is the standard windows 6.5 screen. Like on the touch screen devices it consist of a list of features that you can move up and down to use. In addition each feature can then be toggled left or right to reveal more options. Not the best experience but its okay.

Windows Standard

There are however many different options when it comes to home screens on the OmniaPRO. Check these out:

Once again, which you use will come down to personal preference. Some of the screens are a bit dated but all function well.

Although the keyboard on the Samsung B7330 is nice it is not as nice to use as on the HTC Snap or some Blackberry's. The keys are a good size and feel nice but using them just doesn't feel as smooth as on the other handsets.

The major let down I found with the hard wear on the B7330 was the navigation pad. Getting around the menus is okay although it does require a firm click. But where it doesn't work well is the web browser. The Samsung B7730 OniaPRO comes pre loaded with internet explorer. Normally this browser performs ok but the issue I had with the navigation pad was that it only allows you to move up/down/left & right. Most other similar devices I have used allow for diagonal movement of the onscreen mouse arrow. Without this diagonal option its a real pain selecting an on screen option in the browser. So much so I hated using it. Everything I wanted to do took twice as long as on my HTC Snap and it was really frustrating. Why Samsung did not use the optical track pad like on the original Omnia and i780 baffles me but its too late now!

So what else is this OmniaPRO good for? Being a Windows Phone I love the calendar options and I find it great for organising meetings etc. With Microsoft's MyPhone app built in to the device you can sync the phone and the calendar schedules appear on MyPhone on the PC. As I have mentioned in a few previous reviews MyPhone will also sync contacts, sms, pictures and videos. Its free and I love it!

Messaging on the OmniaPRO is simple pimple. You can set up one email account with Active Sync and this will push mail to you as its sent. In addition you can also set up multiple other email accounts but these will not be push email. You can set the phone to sync with the server every 5, 10, 15 minutes etc to retrieve mail. Its dead easy to set up and performs beautifully.

The OmniaPRO has GPS built in and the good news is that this Orange version comes pre-loaded with Orange Maps. This is a free service and will download the maps as you need them. For a free turn by turn navigation service its great and if you are not in a position to purchase one of the more popular navigation tools such as CoPilot or TomTom then Orange maps is a god send. I have tested on several devices and I have not got lost once!

Of course a Windows phone would not be complete without Office Mobile. As always this includes Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint. All of these accept PowerPoint can be created from scratch. If you could do with viewing docs while away from your office this is a great tool and one that I personally use daily. As the Samsung B7330 OmniaPRO can take a microSD card of up to 32GB you can get a hell of a lot of word and excel docs on the phone.

If you like to download apps then the OmniaPRO has Windows Marketplace built in. Its early days but there are some pretty good apps in there and the next year will be interesting.

Also included is Windows Live so you can instant message your best friends just like on your PC. This is a great form of communication and Matt and I use this constantly all day.

The camera on the B7330 was actually better than I thought it would be. Although there is no flash and its only 3.2mp in daylight it produced reasonable shots. The camera interface is easy to use and the auto focus works quickly. Not bad.

Watching video on the OmniaPRo is nice thanks to the nice big screen (well its quite big for a device with a QWERTY keyboard!). As with all Windows phones it comes with Windows Media Player. This will obviously not play all formats but you can download other players such as Coreplayer, which will play most. This way you can convert your DVDs to MP4 and watch them on the phone. Once again with support up to 32GB that means a lot of movies.

Before testing out the music player on the OmnaPRO I was expecting a good performance like on most of Samsungs phones and I am pleased to say they have done it again. The speaker is not great but once the headphones are connected the Foo Fighters sounded awesome! One major disappointment though was the supplied headphones. Not only is there no 3.5mm headset jack on the device, which means you must use the supplied headphones, but these supplied ones are different to the headphones supplied by Samsung over the last year or so. They are not as good! I love my Samsung headphones but these new ones are totally different. Not only is the in ear design different but they look and feel really, really, really cheap and I cant see them lasting too long to be honest. What were you thinking Samsung, you silly billies. I'm not impressed.

In my opinion - No! Its not a bad bit of kit but its not as user friendly as the others I have just mentioned. I just feel that whether you are buying sim free or upgrading your contract you will be wiser to choose another device. Sorry Samsung, better luck next time. And sort those earphones out, please!

Samsung have released another great phone to the Omnia range, this is the B7300 Omnia Lite 3G Smartphone, it is part of the Omnia range which includes the Samsung B7610 Omnia PRO and the Samsung B7320 Omnia PRO, they all come with a great number of different features to make them stand out from each other. The Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite is a great looking 3G Smartphone that comes in two colour options, these are black with bright red and black with blue so you can choose which handset suits your personality. The handset is of very good quality with dimensions or 107 x 518 x 129mm and weighing 103 grams. Samsung have given the B7300 Omnia a 3 inch TFT display with 65k colours and 240 x 400 pixel resolution, it also comes with a touch screen display and for the computer feel a TouchWiz UI and Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. There is also 250 megabytes of built-in memory with the option to add a MicroSD™ memory card for up to 32 Gigabytes, this will enable to store a huge amount of information, photos and music on you handset.

Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite Review - Internet and Connectivity

As the Samsung B7300 Omnia is a 3G smartphone it has some great internet and connectivity features. To get high speed connectivity to the web the B7300 mobile phone has 3G HSDPA, this also allows the user to stay connected to the internet while making a phone call. To make your data transfers even speedier the B7300 has EDGE and GPRS technologies. Connecting to the internet is easy as the B7300 uses WAP 2.0, HTML and XHTML web browsers. You can use you mobile phone over a number of networks, these include Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G HSDPA 2100 and 900, your phone will automatically switch between these when required too. If you need to download any information from you phone to a pc or laptop you can do this with a Micro USB cable. Sharing your photos, music and other information can be done using Bluetooth® as long as the other person has this capability. If you see yourself a bit of a Steven Spielberg and making movies is your thing or maybe just catching those moments a still camera can’t the you can do this with the video recorder which can capture up to 30 frames per second allowing high quality videos. Playing back you videos will be of great quality as the B7300 Omnia’s video player supports H264, H263, MPEG4, XviD, DivX and WMV9 formats. If you have friends that live the other side of the country or even the other side of the world you can still have a face to face conversation with them using the additional camera for making video calls. Samsung have added an ok music player supporting WMA, MP3 and AAC music formats so you can download and listen to all your favorite music, alternatively you can use the built-in RDS FM radio to catch up with all you favorite radio DJ’s while on the go. The RDS allows you to view the text of the station you are listening too on the screen of your handset. To make your Samsung B7300 Omnia Lite your own you can use the built-in ringtones or download them in polyphonic, MP3 or WAV formats.

To keep in touch with friends family or even the office is possible as the B7300 Omnia has a number of messaging services, SMS for those simple text messages, MMS (multi media messaging) for sending pictures etc and if you like to have a good old chat you can use the instant messaging function. Alternatively you stay in touch via push email which also allows you to view any documents sent to you. If required there is also a predictive text function on the B7300.

There are a number of other fantastic functions on the Samsung B7300 Omnia 3G smartphone. You can download games from the internet or use the ones already built-in to the handset. Samsung B3210 Genio Qwerty

With the explosion of social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter, it seems even those on the tightest of budgets want a phone that can keep up with their frenzied messaging. As such we're starting to see more and more budget phones with full-size keyboards hitting the market. The latest to come our way is the Samsung Genio Qwerty, which is available for just £119.99 SIM free.

There's no mistaking this is a phone aimed squarely at the consumer market as opposed to the professional. With its predominance of glossy plastic and bright yellow backplate and buttons, this phone certainly isn't a shrinking violet. Thankfully, if swirling bright yellow isn't for you, there's a choice of backplates including a relatively plain black one. You'll still be stuck with the yellow buttons, though. That said, we're looking at the Orange branded version whereas the Virgin Media version has white highlights and backplate.

While the looks of this phone may be divisive, its ergonomics should have broader appeal. The back is curved in just such a way that the phone fits really snugly in the hand and feels well balanced. All the main navigation and typing buttons also fall within easy reach and are simple to navigate, though the D-pad is a little small. The volume rocker on the left and camera button on the right are also conveniently positioned, though considering the orientation of the screen, we think it more likely you'll use the central D-pad button to take shots rather than the side mounted one.

After reviewing the Samsung Genio Touch, here comes another Genio mobile phone from Samsung: the Samsung Genio QWERTY. The Samsung Genio QWERTY retained the colorful back cover of its sibling, the Genio Touch but has foregone the touchscreen for a Blackberry-like QWERTY keypad. Well, let's check out the Samsung Genio QWERTY.

Design

The Samsung Genio QWERTY is somewhat similar to the Samsung B7330 OmniaPro I've previously reviewed. Supposedly, the Samsung Genio QWERTY will have interchangeable back panels. That's cool except that Samsung made the colors of the QWERTY keyboard and the directional keypad match the back cover so I don't know what this mobile phone would look like having a pink back panel and a yellow keyboard.

The keyboard is a bit cramped so those with big fingers would take a while to get used to the Samsung B3210. The screen is bit small for me and I don't know if I have just gotten used to AMOLED screens but the colors of the Genio QWERTY screen is a bit washed out for me.

On the right is the dedicated camera button, on the left, the volume rocker, and on top, something which I'm not used to seeing on mobile phones below 100 quid, is a 3.5mm headset jack, beside it is the microUSB port.

I had a hard time taking out and putting back the back cover. I'm used to sliding the back cover but it seems that on the Samsung B3210, you have to pop open the back panel. Putting back the back panel is a bit of a hassle and there are times when the back panel's not completely put in place.

Anyhow, the design of the Samsung Genio QWERTY is pretty much solid. The materials used doesn't look cheap and the back panel's sturdy.

User Interface

The Samsung Genio QWERTY's homescreen gives you some sort of sliding widgets. There are shortcuts arrange horizontally at the bottom of the screen and you can browse through it using the directional keypad. There's a Myspace and Facebook shortcut on the homescreen sliding widget too. The menu screen reminds me of the Samsung Lucido's interface. Menu's are limited to just one screen. There's a calendar app, messaging, phonebook, settings, settings, clock, music player, file explorer, fm radio, and a web browser.

Messaging, Music, applications, web browser

Messaging is the same as with Samsung's non-touchscreen mobile phones. I have pretty much big fingers so it wasn't easy getting used to the keyboard of the Samsung Genio QWERTY but after a while, you get the hang of it.

The music player is not that pretty but it plays MP3s, AAC, and WMA music file formats. The music player can show your album art and can also run on the background, replacing your homescren sliding widgets with just the music player. Audio quality is okay, audio through speakers is so-so but the 3.5mm onboard headset jack is definitely a plus for the Samsung Genio QWERTY.

I was expecting to see trial versions of games again on the Samsung B3210 but thankfully, the ones on my unit are full versions. I like the typing test game and this game would be really useful for those who are first time QWERTY users.

I actually didn't bother with the web browser. With no 3G and WiFi and only the Access Netfront browser, I wish you luck trying to browse web pages. However, if you do download the fabulous Opera Mini browser, even EDGE would do thanks to Opera Mini's server side processing, web pages actually render a bit faster.

Camera

The Samsung B3210 Genio QWERTY only has a 2 megapixel camera but like the Samsung Genio Touch, it actually produces decent images even without autofocus. Here are some sample shots below.

Conclusion

Blackberry's are still a hit to teeners but come on, like the iPhone, not many tweeners could afford one. The Samsung Genio QWERTY offers a cheap alternative. The colorful back covers, decent camera and audio quality would make the Samsung B3210 Genio QWERTY worth your 100 quid.

Samsung Solid Extreme B2100

Samsung has a bit of a history of making toughened handsets for the rough and tumble of outdoor life. The latest incarnation, the Solid Extreme B2100, follows in the footsteps of the original Samsung Solid M110, and the B2700 Bound. The Solid Extreme looks more like the Bound than the original Solid and is being sold in some quarters as the B2100 Xplore, which is what it was called on Samsung's original press release. The B2100 part of its name remains intact whether it is called Solid Extreme or Xplore though, and it is best thought of as a less well-featured alternative to the B2700 Bound.

The point of this mobile, like its predecessors, is to survive harsh conditions outdoors. It aims to be the kind of phone you can take hiking, mountain biking, hill climbing and so on without it wimping out when it gets dropped, complaining of a cracked screen, waterlogged parts, etc. Flashes of red along the long edges give it a little touch of distinctiveness too. Not surprisingly, then, the Solid Extreme is made of fairly robust materials. The casing is IP57 certified, which means it can withstand dust and water. It will cope with being immersed in a metre of water for 30 minutes, apparently. Oh, and it is compliant with Military Standard 810F too, which means it can survive salt fog, extreme heat and cold, and blowing rain.

To achieve that state the handset has a toughened rubberised casing with minimal openings. The number pad is a single sheet of rubber with each key a raised pad. It was easy enough to use at a leisurely pace, though speed-texters might find it a bit unresponsive. The rubbery, non-slip finish to the buttons make it easier than usual to paw at when wearing gloves and the rubbery finish of the entire chassis should make gripping it with gloves more secure than your standard shiny plastic chassis. The backplate fits very snugly and can only be removed by using a coin, screwdriver or something similar to unlock it. I found a fingernail was not tough enough for this job.
